For our dredging and hydraulic engineering projects in the German coastal area, but also for projects worldwide, we are looking for site managers (superintendents).
The position
Van Oord is working worldwide to make and maintain our coastal regions and waterways fit for the future through innovative and customized solutions and by using the most modern and environmentally friendly technology. Due to the steady growth of this division, Van Oord has several positions available as Construction Manager (Superintendent) for dredging and hydraulic engineering.

In practice
In the role of site manager, you are responsible for the preparation, mobilization, execution, demobilization and follow-up of projects, taking care of project-specific requirements, work safety and your team. You communicate regularly with the respective ship management of our work vessels and work alternately at the project sites, on board our vessels, in our offices in Hamburg, Bremen or Rotterdam and can also do a lot from the home office.
Your tasks
- You participate in the preparation of the operational execution of the projects;
- You will ensure that projects are completed safely and on time according to project plans and that the vessels and equipment used are able to operate in an efficient and performance-oriented manner;
- You will prepare documents such as procedure descriptions, work instructions, and performance status reports;
- You will lead, coordinate and motivate the operational site team and you will organize and lead briefings and safety instructions with the team;
- You coordinate and advise on technical problems and challenges;
- You are the link between all internal and external stakeholders on an operational level and thus communicate proactively in all directions;
- You report to and collaborate with the (sub-)project management.
Professional requirements
- Completed technical or maritime degree and/or in-service training;
- Work and think at a higher vocational, intellectual and professional level;
- Good command of written and spoken English;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
- An independent, practical, creative and dedicated individual who is able to solve problems, has the confidence to make decisions and enjoys working as part of a team;
- Flexibility in terms of alternating work on board, on project sites at home and abroad and in the office under different types of (rotation) schedules;
- Newcomers to the profession are welcome.
