As Van Oord, we work to create a better world for future generations by delivering Marine Ingenuity.
Van Oord is an internationally active company focusing on dredging and offshore wind power. The company is family-owned, headquartered in Rotterdam (Netherlands) and employs 5,300 people worldwide.

Offshore wind is one of the fastest growing markets for green energy. Not only in Western Europe, but also elsewhere in the world, wind farms are being considered to make electricity supply more sustainable. By building offshore wind farms, Van Oord is contributing to the energy transition. To maintain our leading position and to keep up with the influx of projects in the coming years, we are looking for a Cost Engineer Offshore Wind (m/f/d) for our Offshore Wind business unit in Hamburg (DE).

Your tasks

As a Cost Engineer Offshore Wind you play an essential role in the tendering process for offshore wind projects, where your estimates can make the difference. You prepare economically and technically sound cost and time estimates for tenders and have a good understanding of logistical concepts as well as the possibilities and limitations of offshore technology. That's why you not only prepare the cost estimate, but also understand what really happens on site. This way you can advise the tender team on the most cost and time efficient design based on your expertise.

Additionally you are responsible for

  • Coordinate with relevant departments such as engineering, operations and ship management with the goal of providing an accurate and valid cost and time estimate;
  • Coordinate with our risk and planning specialists to strive for fully integrated project management;
  • Prepare work estimates and assist in the implementation phase of a project;
  • Actively develop your expertise by keeping up to date with the latest developments in the market and identifying potential opportunities for Van Oord.

After Van Oord is pre-qualified as a contractor for a project, a tender team is assembled. You start a new tender by going through all the project documentation and conducting a tender kick-off with the team under the direction of the Tender Manager. Based on all the information, you start preparing the initial cost estimates. If necessary, you will seek advice to ensure that you can present an estimate to the tender team as soon as possible. As you often have to deal with tight deadlines, goal-oriented work and excellent communication skills are essential for this job.

Professional requirements

You are a stress resistant person who can work methodically, but most importantly you are a team player with excellent communication skills.

You also bring:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree, preferably in a technical field;
  • At least 3 years of experience in preparing estimates;
  • Experience with logistics and weather simulation software is a plus;
  • Experience with Cleopatra software is a plus;
  • Experience in the offshore (wind) industry;
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken.

We offer

You will work with us in an international, very challenging and dynamic company, with the opportunity to make a real impact on our business, people and the environment. We offer you a complete package with excellent additional benefits. The package includes but is not limited to

  • Flexible working hours (trust-based working hours)
  • 40 hrs. contract, if you wish something else, please let us know.
  • Mobile working 2 days per week
  • 30 days vacation
  • Company pension plan
  • VWL allowance
  • Variable bonus payment
  • Germany ticket subsidy
  • Extensive learning and (personal) development opportunities through continuing education and courses as well as learning platforms
  • Sports and foreign languages

You can also expect:

  • A modern and international working environment with flat hierarchies;
  • a highly motivated team in which everyone can contribute, with a great team spirit;
  • A central and lively location in Hamburg City South with ideal bus and train connections;
  • Team events, fresh fruit (great fruit salad), water, coffee specialties, canteen and cafeteria.
